Her Campus Media was founded in 2009 by Stephanie Kaplan Lewis, Annie Wang, and Windsor Hanger Western at Harvard, and it remains 100% women-owned-and-operated today.
Spoon University serves a network of food lovers, content creators, educators and influencers working together to make food fun and accessible. We are the “foodie” branch of Her Campus Media and similar to the Her Campus Chapter Network, are composed of 100+ chapters from across the country. Her Campus Media partners with brands (including food brands) to provide a 360-degree approach to marketing and create deep, meaningful connections with GenZennials.
Spoon University was founded in 2013 by Mackenzie Barth and Sarah Adler at Northwestern University. Their print magazine and club were so successful that other schools around the country started asking how they could open a Spoon chapter. After graduating, Mackenzie and Sarah moved to New York City and won funding for Spoon University through Techstar, a competitive accelerator program. In May 2017, Spoon University was acquired by Scripps Network (owner of Food Network) and in March 2018, Scripps Network was acquired by Discovery Inc. Spoon University published its own cookbook, How to Feed Yourself, in December 2018 and hosted an annual foodie conference, Brainfood, in New York and San Francisco. Spoon University was acquired by Her Campus Media in November 2019.
