Spoon HQ does not currently fund chapters, but teams are encouraged to use free publicity strategies like social media, on-campus events and partnering with other student clubs or organizations in the community. When planning fundraisers, keep in mind that checks cannot be written to your Spoon chapter since it is not a standalone legal entity.

 

Chapters are not permitted to host GoFundMe fundraisers or create any accounts in Spoon University's or Her Campus Media’s name, such as Square and Venmo. Dedicated chapter bank accounts are only permitted if the account is through your campus, meaning your chapter receives funding through your school. 

 

Please email Victoria (victoria@spoonuniversity.com) with any questions BEFORE committing to a fundraiser if you have questions or need any of the above information - especially if you are unsure.

 

For fundraisers benefiting your chapter:

  • Tax ID number OR W9 IS NOT required: Your chapter may keep 100% of the amount earned. Typically these include member dues and other cash fundraisers like bake sales, ticket sales or local establishments that do not require a Tax ID, etc.

  • Tax ID number OR W9 IS required: Checks should be written to Her Campus Media, LLC. with your chapter name in the memo. Her Campus Media will retain 30% of the amount to cover corporate income tax, meaning your chapter will receive 70% of the funds raised. Typically these are events held at local restaurants or with other organizations, etc. Please reference the reimbursement procedure below. Her Campus Media reserves the right to not reimburse funds raised if the procedure isn't followed.

    • Victoria should be notified via email (victoria@spoonuniversity.com) of all fundraisers beforehand, detailing what information your chapter needs like the Her Campus Media tax ID number or W9. Chapter leaders should also send their PayPal email in this correspondence. 

Reimbursement Procedure: 

  • Ensure the check is written to Her Campus Media, LLCwith your chapter name in the memo. This check should be the full amount of funds raised and Her Campus Media will then reimburse the 70% your chapter will retain via Paypal.

    • i.e. For spoonuniversity.com/chapter/duke, Spoon at Duke is the chapter name. 

    • Ensure the check is sent with a note detailing your chapter name, fundraiser description and PayPal email address to the address below:

For fundraisers benefiting other organizations: 

  • If your chapter is hosting an event where all proceeds are being donated to a philanthropy, you do not need to send any money to the national office beforehand unless Her Campus's Tax ID is required (see above).
